Yadviga Sinyavskaya participated in the ANR-lab seminar
On November 20, 2023, Yadviga Sinyavskaya, a research fellow of the Laboratory of Social and Cognitive Informatics and a candidate of sociological sciences, delivered a presentation 'Studying social capital in urban networks in relation to behavior and communication on social media'.
Our laboratory researcher fellow Yadviga Sinyavskaya, in her presentation, discussed the factors explaining the differences among VKontakte social network users, both in observed indicators of structural social capital (structural position within the network of connections in the city of Vologda) and in perceived social capital metrics (the level of 'resourcefulness' of their social connections). The structural position was evaluated in the study using Social Network Analysis (SNA) and calculated as individual metrics of network centrality.
The observed indicators were complemented with information from an online survey of a representative sample of users about the specifics of social media usage and perceptions of their social capital. Subsequently, using structural equation modeling, the metrics of users' social capital were simulated.
