An open lecture by Dr Olessia Koltsova took place in Oxford
On November 16th, 2023, the Head of Social and Cognitive Informatics Laboratory, Dr Olessia Koltsova, delivered an open lecture as an Oxford Martin Visiting Fellow for the Oxford Martin Programme on Misinformation, Science & Media at Oxford University.
Her lecture titled 'Health misinformation: the barriers to its recognition by information consumers and the limits to the concept of medical "truth"' delved into our laboratory research. Specifically, it explored the role of factors such as fact-checking, media expertise, confirmation bias, and social clues in identifying false messages within specific knowledge areas. Dr Koltsova also addressed the problematic nature of the concept of truth in science-related media messages.
