Dr. Taha Yasseri presented his talk at the "SCILA and Charybdas" seminar
Dr. Taha Yasseri, an expert in computational social science and complex systems modeling, delivered an insightful presentation on May 30, 2023.
During the seminar, Dr. Yasseri shared the results of his research that used agent-based modeling to simulate the dynamics of behavior in online environments. His mathematical models provide social science with a powerful tool to explore how online users reach consensus on controversial topics, how polarization is formed, and why some online platforms (e.g., Wikipedia and Twitter) facilitate or hinder dialogue and consensus.
The audience was impressed by Dr. Yasseri's innovative approach to address pressing social issues. His presentation was followed by discussion about the implications of his studies for policy makers and the future directions of such research.
