The Impact of The Internet on Protests: Cross-Country Analysis

The research project is a part of student annual final paper "The Impact of the Internet on Protests". In the context of protest study and the impact on them of the Internet we assume that users receive information about the situation in the country (poverty, corruption, unfair trials, tyranny of power) by using the Internet and then, when the disturbance reaches a critical point, go to the streets to express their attitude.
The purpose of the project is to define and explain the degree of connection between Internet penetration and citizen participation in the protests at the country level as well as identifying the relationship between these variables over the last decade. The hypothesis that a significant effect on protest activity of citizens, in particular, social networks (Facebook, Twitter) have also is being verified. World Value Survey and Internet World Stat are being used as an empirical material in the research. Data analysis is being done by using R.
