FactChecking (THE ROLE OF INFORMATION VERIFICATION STRATEGIES IN THE PROCESS OF VALIDATING MISINFORMATION)

The project represents a comprehensive study of the information verification strategies employed by social media users based on extensive data analysis (online research). The primary objective of this research is to assess the role of fact-checking and the level of expertise in individuals' ability to determine the credibility of information messages. The main focus is on identifying the most effective information verification strategies and creating a set of recommendations that will serve as the basis for developing an application aimed at enhancing media literacy.

Concerns about health misinformation have promoted misinformation-correction, especially on social media. This research aims at investigating the impact of correction sources (i.e., health influencers vs health professionals) and their correcting practices on Russian regular cigarette smokers’ perceptions of source credibility.

FakeEye (Eye-tracking study of FakeNews perception)

The use of eye tracking technology will allow us to understand where the attention of participants is directed while FakeNews reading as well as highlight the most significant elements of a news message. The use of this technology will also reveal behavioral differences in the categorization of participants of reliable and false messages.

The project is part of the Strategic Project "Resilient Brain: Neurocognitive Technologies for Adaptation, Learning, Development and Rehabilitation of a Person in a Changing Environment". The main goal of the current research is to develop methods to counteract polarizing online content, including methods based based on AI. At the moment, the project is preparing research materials and purchasing the necessary equipment.
